It’s not uncommon to hear those who practice Reiki, and even some Doula’s, use the term ‘Reiki baby’, but for those who are not studying or practicing this modality the term can seem a little foreign.
A Reiki baby is simply a sweet term given to an infant who receives Reiki treatments while they were still in the womb, or after birth, as they are so relaxed and contented and seem to respond differently to the world around them than other infants who haven’t received Reiki.
Every newborn is unique and special, but most infants can show signs stress, fussiness, separation anxiety (yes, it happens to newborns!), and even colic after the first week of birth. While infant stress can be harmless, continuous anxiety at such a young age can create imbalance and disharmony that may negatively influence your beautiful bundle’s growth and emotional development (which can also influence physical development).
Reiki is particularly beneficial to preemie babies, special needs infants, or those who have had a traumatic/stressful start to life. Not only do treatments benefit these babes, it also benefits their families, stressed moms and dads who often feel helpless are reassured when they see their child instantly relax under the touch of Reiki.
Many women who have learnt Reiki have experienced the effects that Reiki energy has had on their babies, either during pregnancy or after. On many occasions I’ve had new moms tell me how their babies seem to reach out towards the Reiki energy being exchanged with them during session, or had fussy children immediately relax after placing their hands over the area of discomfort. And all moms who have been attuned to Reiki use the gentle healing energy to their babies through colic, fussiness, teething, childhood falls, and illnesses. During Reiki attunements, pregnant women have experienced their baby responding to the energy flow.
Reiki assists baby with;
- sleeping longer, and more restfully
- soothing tummy wind and colic
- easing teething pains
- boosted immune systems
- quicker recovery from illness

I’ve mentioned a few times that children and babies are naturally open to energy flow, unlike adults and older children who become conditioned by life to fear or dismiss alternative methods of health and wellbeing, and as a result infant sessions do not last as long as an adult session. Depending on baby’s needs, all it takes is 10-20 minutes each day, or every other day, to support your little one’s emotional, physical, mental, and energetic wellbeing.
Reiki allows infants to focus on the serious business of being a happy, healthy bundle of joy, taking some of the stress and pressure off new parents helping them enjoy this special time with their new addition.
