Holistic Tarot

Transpersonal Tarot 101

Transpersonal Tarot GuideStarting a Tarot practice can be intimidating at first, but it doesn’t have to be.

Like everything Metaphysical, there are many differing opinions and interpretations about Transpersonal, or Holistic, Tarot out there, and many different ways that people use different types of holistic tools. In Holistic Healing, the tool is not the focus, it is, rather, how we use it. So, in this case, and the way I teach Tarot use, your tarot card deck (or a traditional playing card deck) is the “tool”, or “instrument” that you will be using to assess and understand the state of your mind, body, and spirit.

In my Transpersonal Tarot Reading Course, you learn how to use this tool, your Tarot Deck, as a way to expand your self-awareness, consciousness, spiritual understanding, and receive opportunities for inner guidance and introspection in order to make better life decisions. In addition to this, you learn how to use cards as a tool for personal growth, self-improvement and spiritual development.

Notice here that I have mentioned nothing about being psychic.

How do the cards work?

Transpersonal Tarot works hand in hand with your energy and the Law of Attraction. Tarot Cards work off of our energy, and the energies that we are putting out into the Universe. To explain the Law of Attraction simply, it is the Universal Law that states “Like Attracts Like”. This law is governed by thought energy, our beliefs, emotional feelings and responses, and ultimately the decisions we make and actions that we take within our day to day lives.

The reason why Tarot Cards can be such an empowering and valuable tool is because they offer us an opportunity to examine the energies that we are emanating (which is what each of them represent), and what we will be likely attracting into our lives, either currently or over time, if we continue to put out those same energies, thoughts, emotions and actions.

I view Transpersonal Tarot as a form of Spiritual Coaching, or Counselling, paired with Holistic Self-Healing, and when we use Tarot Cards in a Holistic way, we become more aware of who we are and why we are the way we are (aka. Self-Awareness), we become aware of the bigger picture of the Universe and the beauty of Human Existence (The Story of The Fools Journey), and we gain an increased appreciation and respect for “Free Will” and “cause and effect” (aka. The Law of Attraction). And by doing so, we are addressing all aspects of our being – mind, body, and spirit. Transpersonal Tarot is a journey into The Self, it is your own personal counselling session, if you will, and is a tool that we can use every day, to successfully relieve stress, and live an empowered and mindful life by design.

The term ‘Transpersonal’ simply means “areas of consciousness beyond the limits of personal identity”, and Transpersonal is exactly that, using the Tarot as a tool to address the health, well being and growth of all parts that make up a person – mind, body, and soul.

Interpreting your Cards

Now, not everything that I teach in my course is going to be covered in this post, but below I will share a simple guide and basic interpretations of your Tarot Deck that you can use to start exploring, understanding and using your cards as a tool for self-empowerment, healing, and growth.

The Benefits of Reiki for Expectant Partners

Continuing on with the Reiki series today, Reiki is often recommended for its wealth of benefits during pregnancy (if you missed that post, you can check it out here) and for new baby and children, but a crucial part of that little family unit that is often left out is how Reiki can benefit Expectant Partners.

Expectant Partners can often have just as hard a time during the pregnancy of their unborn child – true, they aren’t the one’s suffering through fatigue, morning sickness, backache, constant trips to the loo, etc., but there is more to pregnancy than the physical part. There is also emotional preparation that happens during pregnancy which is important for our partners to be part of, and just as important for their emotional needs to be addressed too.

The Benefits of Reiki for Expectant Partners

  1. Expectant Partners undergo their own transitions during pregnancy and the postpartum period, they also experience stress, anxiety, and fear leading up to the birth of their child! Partners worry about whether or not they’ll be a good parent, how they will be best able to support their spouse after the birth, pressures over being responsible for their family can cause anxiety and worry, and even worry about how to adjust to this new lifestyle. Regular Reiki sessions for the expectant partner relieves some of the stress and pressure, and helps to strengthen the mind and body, and as a result, your can prepare him or herself better for the changes in their life.
  2. Reiki provides a unique opportunity for the parent-to-be, as the can bond with their baby when it is still in the mother’s womb by participating in a Reiki session while mom is still pregnant.
  3. Much like with mom, Reiki deepens the relationship between your partner and child. Your unborn child will connect in utero with the energy of its other parent. Some partners are not able to help mom with feeding (if they are exclusively breastfeeding), and so this offers them an opportunity to develop a deep and loving bond long before your child is born, enhancing the bonding that happens after birth. Many expectant partners who participated in Reiki treatments during pregnancy said that “they felt they bonded quickly with their baby after birth, and did not feel left out or overwhelmed by the new baby*.

A Reiki trained partner can:

  • Treat mom, during all stages of the pregnancy, labour , and afterwards to promote healing and emotional balance.
  • Maintain an emotional connection with mom during childbirth, and after, through daily Reiki treatments. It can be hard for new mothers maintain an emotional connection with their partner after the birth of a child, despite wanting too they often do not have the energy.
  • Continue to bond with new baby and support mom by giving baby regular Reiki sessions to relax baby and help calm baby should they wake upset during the night. (Please consult a doctor if there is any chance that the infant is unwell or injured.)
  • Reiki provides a benefit to the person giving the treatment, as well as to the recipient, so that your partner’s health and stress levels improve by helping mom and baby.
  • Learning Reiki empowers partners with a tool that benefits and supports the entire family.

While Reiki treatments can be given by practitioners and Reiki Masters, expectant partners can easily learn and be attuned to Reiki themselves, often being the more cost-effective option, especially during this new phase.

If you are interested in learning Reiki for yourself, and your family, I offer a compact and discounted Reiki course for expecting and new parents. Questions? Feel free to email me on kerry@wherehumrests.com. If you are a Doula or birthing partner, I offer a full Reiki practitioner certification. For more information on the course, click here.

The Benefits of Reiki during Pregnancy

Reiki during pregnancy

It’s no secret just how passionate I am about Reiki – I sing it’s praises at every opportunity, and I know I’m not alone in this! Despite being centuries old with its roots stemming from ancient Eastern traditions, Reiki treatments are still considered a relatively new form of therapy being used in the ‘New World’ to balance the mind and body through holistic means. The best part of Reiki is that anyone can learn this art and practice as often as one wants or needs. Many Reiki Masters have written about the endless advantages and uses that Reiki has and how it has helped people, however, today, I want to chat about the benefits that regular Reiki treatments and Reiki self-treatments can have for expectant mothers. In fact, over the next few days I am going to explore how Reiki can help, or benefit women, with or during their pregnancy, the benefits that Reiki has on their unborn baby, the benefits of Reiki for the expectant father (because we don’t want to forget about them), and the benefits of Reiki for children and their development.

Reiki is a type of natural healing without the use of any medications, and obviously no side effects. The practice of Reiki, involves passing the flow of pure, positive energies through simple touch. In the past few years this technique has gained immense importance, mainly due to the ease with which it is practiced.

Is Reiki safe during pregnancy?

Reiki is completely safe and does not have any side effects, in fact, it has both relaxing and energising effects, depending on the needs of the expectant mother! I have had many students who have found their Reiki practice during pregnancy to be incredibly beneficial. Expectant mothers go through a lot of changes during pregnancy; this makes her in need of nourishment both emotionally as well as physically, and this is where Reiki comes in.

Mothers who have practiced regular Reiki self-treatments have experienced a decrease in nausea, fatigue and other physical pregnancy symptoms – which are explored in greater detail below. The need for C-sections has been proven to be reduced when a woman has been undergoing Reiki sessions, as well as less pain and need for analgesics of mothers who received Reiki after elective and emergency c-sections*. Many women who experienced Conception problems have been beneficially treated with Reiki sessions too*. The Reiki received by the expectant mothers naturally has a range of benefits on the unborn baby too, but these will be covered in a separate post.

A regular Reiki practice is safe to use by all women from conception right up to childbirth, and long after.

The Benefits of Reiki during Pregnancy

  1. When practiced right from the first trimester, Reiki has shown reduced nausea, morning sickness and fatigue, boosting energy making mom’s day more manageable.
  2. As the fetus grows and the uterus begins to shift, women begin to experience lower back ache, muscle and ligament pain, cramping and discomfort with regular Reiki self-treatment.
  3. Reiki calms the mind, allaying fears and anxieties experienced during pregnancy.
  4. Reiki reduces stress and encourages deeper relaxation, resulting better sleep during pregnancy.
  5. Reiki encourages a strong immune system during pregnancy, lowering the chance of mom getting sick.
  6. Reiki eases the process of labour and childbirth. The calming effect of this ancient practice brings control, relaxes the pelvic muscles, relaxes the mental and emotional state of the mother, and reduces delivery pain. In fact, women who were recommended a cesarean section and practiced Reiki during their pregnancies, have reported lesser need for cesarean sections as their deliveries have drawn closer.
  7. Mothers who chose to have cesarean sections, as well as those with unplanned c-sections, showed significantly less pain (66,75%)* and anxiety following their procedures with regular Reiki treatments.
  8. When Reiki energies are focused on the abdomen, Reiki has demonstrated positive effects on the baby in the womb. Pregnant women using Reiki have reported positive movements and physical responses (in the form of sustained kicks) by their babies during the energy-transferring sessions. While Reiki can make the baby wriggle with pleasure in the womb, it can also calm the baby when the mother is stressed and emotionally unsettled.
  9. Depression during pregnancy and post-partum are rapidly affecting more and more mothers each year. In such cases, Reiki is known to provide emotional and psychological support, balancing emotions and hormones, and bringing back a more positive and healthy state of mind.
  10. Reiki has been documented to assist with both the supply of breast milk as well as relieving the anxiety and pressure around breast feeding, allowing the mother to relax into the process making it a more pleasurable experience,  and encouraging bonding between the mother and baby.
  11. Reiki concentrated on the breasts of new mothers assist with pain from engorgement or feeding.
  12. Just as music and reading to the fetus have shown positive cognitive references after childbirth, Reiki has also demonstrated similar spiritual connections between the mother and the child encouraging a strong connection long before the child is born. Many mothers who practiced regular self-treatments throughout their pregnancy have document wonderful, spiritual experiences between them and their unborn child(ren).
  13. Reiki has also been known to help the new father bond with the unborn fetus, with the help of spiritual energies, enhancing the family experience of pregnancy making it a pleasant and exciting experience for the whole family.
  14. Reiki is known to relieve the emotional stress that occurs when a new baby comes into the family. Mothers who used Reiki during and after pregnancy are known to better adjust to the big change in their lives while looking after their new born baby.
  15. Reiki promotes strength, confidence and emotional balance during final stages of pregnancy.
  16. Helps mothers heal and bond with baby after birth.
  17. Aids digestion, relieving heartburn and constipation.
  18. Reiki has some amazing benefits for the newborn as well – it has shown fantastic results in improving the baby’s sleep, reducing colic problems and accelerating their motor skill development, but more on that in the next post 🙂

While Reiki treatments can be given  by practitioners and Reiki Masters, pregnant women can easily learn and be attuned to Reiki themselves, often being the more cost effective option. Women generally feel completely out of control of their own bodies during pregnancy. Reiki provides an anchor to pregnant women that makes them feel in control of the situation and keeps them firmly rooted in their body and life, no matter what surprises await them.

Did you practice Reiki during pregnancy? How did it help you? I’d love to hear your experiences in the comments section below.
